Quilted postcards.
Really? How cool is that?
As most people know that have read this blog for a while, I have a special fondness for textile arts such as sewing, knitting, crocheting and embroidery for example. These are all skills that I greatly admire but personally have absolutely no talent at.
When I came across today's shop, I was instantly intrigued and after a little exploring, I knew I had to share Linda's beautiful artwork with all my readers.
SewUpscale on Etsy is a little shop ran by Linda Johnson that is filled with quilted postcards. Little postcard sized pieces of quilted artistry in the form of lovely landscapes and other nature prints put to life through fabric and stitch.
Linda specializes in unique landscapes and nature visages and her shop has a variety of different and unique pieces to browse through from mountain vistas to night skies, ocean views and more.
This type of artwork is labor intensive with each piece and color individually cut out and pieced together through quilting methods then quilted. Linda uses a variety of types of fabric in order to give the pieces texture and depth and the thread, as well, adds its own individual touches throughout each piece.
These postcards can be sent in the mail and when received the postcard can then be framed as artwork and kept forever. These wonderfully artistic pieces can be used to bring a smile or tell someone you care as well as used as a tag for a gift or many other ideas and creative possibilities. And, Linda also accepts custom orders! That means you could have one made up special just for a loved one or for artwork for your own wall.

Since I'm a jewelry artisan... and I sell jewelry on Etsy, some would say that it's counter-productive for me to write about other jewelry artisans in the handmade community. But, the fact is, even above being a jewelry artisan, I'm a jewelry connoisseur.
I like jewelry.... to be completely honest, I LOVE jewelry. So when I come across someone as talented as today's artisan, I have to take a minute to admire.
Beautiful pieces. Quality craftsmanship. Spectacular vision. Licia Beads on Etsy has all of this and more.
This shop is filled with unique handmade jewelry from bridal pieces to everyday classics in pearls and gemstones. Each piece is colorfully beaded and some of the styles range from the free-spirited gypsy look to a few that are downright humorous.
Licia is an extremely talented woman in
more ways than one. She also owns and runs a landscaping company, Ginkgo Landscape Design in Mukilteo, WA (20 miles north of Seattle) which is not far from where I live.
Between her shop and her business in landscaping I see someone who has a true love and passion for nature and flora and it's reflected in nearly every piece of jewelry in her shop.
I can't express enough the admiration I have for this woman and her shop as well as, for that matter, her landscape designs.
I encourage you to visit her shop as well as her landscape business page (linked above) and take a look through her shop! If you love nature as much as I do, you're sure to enjoy the browse.

Sometimes owls are cute. (Okay, so, I say sometimes because there are certain times when they're just a little on the creepy side. But... USUALLY owls are cute.) And today's no exception to this in my opinion although the spectacular set of owls pictured to the right really aren't what first drew me to today's shop. They're just one of the many items that caught my attention once I'd "stepped through the door" so to speak.
What first drew me was the picture below.
I love artwork that speaks to me and reminds me of bits of my past that are meant to be savored but might have been lost in the clutter of everyday life's responsibilities and the build up of hours, days and years gone by. Stephanie Birch, the artist behind today's shop, helped stir one of these special memories for me.
The tall birches and simple beauty of the piece drew my eye and made me smile. I once got lost in a similar vista and spent a few hours lying in the grass staring up at the sky, swaying silvery trunks and fluttering bows of birch trees.
The shop, One Gift One World is filled with a number of these serene and beautiful paintings as well as a variety of other earth revering pieces that are worth much more than just a lingering look or two. In fact, they have some of the most beautiful bird art prints that I've ever seen! They also have pieces featuring trees, bunnies, nests and more in both original paintings and prints as well as sculpture.
All are created by the extremely talented artist, Stephanie Birch, and a portion of each of the sales through One Gift One World is contributed to charity. The charities include the Natural Resources Defense Council - The Earth's Best Defense as well as The Humane Society and the Arbor Day Foundation.
These contemporary nature-inspired original paintings, fine art prints and other home decor items are absolutely beautiful. Stephanie also offers a handful of unique accessories. You'll love the browse through her shop so don't miss out on stopping by to take a look around.

Do you know a nature lover? Because if so, I've got the shop for you to go visiting for gifts.
I lived in an area growing up filled with nature. At the base of mountain ranges and surrounded by rain forests, the rich green of moss and flora was disappointingly missing when I moved north into a more suburban environment.
I've missed the green a lot, and that was never more apparent than when I discovered this shop.
I ran across Warm Country Meadows in one of my many wanders through Etsy and I have to admit, I wasn't just fascinated but also a bit amazed.
I'm a nature lover at heart, and I immediately wanted to buy. I mean, the only thing that held me back from an impulse buy was the fact that I wanted so MANY of the things in this shop that I couldn't pick just one!
Warm Country Meadows is filled with terrariums. There's terrariums you can display in your home and also bitty ones you can wear around your neck or from your ears! They're absolutely beautiful and 100% sweet and earthy. They are all living pieces of beautiful art, each and every one of them.

When I was young, my family did a LOT of camping in the summer. Almost every weekend, in fact, and usually at least one week-long camping trip.
I used to love it. I grew up in western Washington, which is full of rain forests and cedar forests, darkly shaded paths and hiking trails, rivers, waterfalls and lakes. Camping was always an adventure. Not only did I get to spend as much time as I wanted barefoot, wild and free and enjoying nature... but I also got to play with fire.
When I came across today's feature shop, it brought me back and made me smile all at the same time.
Nathaniel Luckhurst's photography is beautiful. Gorgeous, actually. And he has a lot of pieces in his shop that make it very easy for me to reminisce about my camping and hiking adventures.
In fact, l like the picture posted just to the left in this blogpost, many of them are perfect resurrections of my memories as many, many of my camping trips and hiking paths looked just like many of the forest land photographs he has to share in his shop.
Since moving to Canada, I haven't really gone camping. I suppose I could blame it on growing up, but I think the fact of the matter is that I never actually realized how much work was involved in all those camping trips back when I was a kid. The preparation (and supplies) needed is phenomenal!
Still, with spring soon slipping into summer and memories stirred by Nathaniel Luckhurst's beautiful prints, I feel the urge. I might just have to take a weekend to enjoy a much-missed-and-longed-for taste of nature again.
