Upcycle, recycle and reuse has become one of the key-point mantras of today. And it's no wonder. With the world's population at an all-time high and our landfills filling to capacity, society needs a new outlook on consumable products and the packaging that houses them.
By upcycling, recycling and reusing ordinary items, you help prevent more waste from filling these landfills and by reducing the use of new manufactured product by using these upcycled, recycled or reused ones it can also help reduce the consumption of new, raw materials to make more of new materials.
Using less new manufactured materials then, by result, can result in a reduction of energy usage, air pollution, water pollution and more since there's less demand from the factories that make those new products.
So, as you can see, the mantra is an excellent one. After all. Just think for a minute how -big- a landfill you would need if every person in the world threw away -one- magazine. Just one. It might be "just one" to you, but when piled up with everyone else's.... The repercussions are mind-boggling.
In today's shop, they understand this concern for the environment 100% and are doing what they can to help minimize their own impact on the world.

Today's shop is Stil Novo Design, whom I first discovered through an Etsy treasury when the stool featured here in this post caught my eye. I immediately fell in love, of course, which is how it ended up here!
Stil Novo Design specializes in
Eco-friendly elegant home decor, custom furniture and 'green' gift ideas that are made out of recycled solid white oak French wine barrels. As a family business dedicated to creating the finest wood-crafts, specialty pieces & custom furniture they take care to make every piece a 'one of a kind' original.
They have a wide variety of items and price points too. From tables, chairs, stools and benches to beautiful candle holders, platters, key chains and more. They're all elegant, unique and just completely drool worthy too and each piece is completely hand-painted.
The Stil Novo philosophy has always been “Artistry and attention to detail" and it shines through in every piece in their shop.
If you're looking for a gift for yourself or someone else that's environmentally friendly, this is a shop you don't want to miss because each piece offered isn't just created by artisans dedicated to the highest quality of wood crafts... they're materials are also recycled from raw material to be turned into beautiful objects of practical elegance.

"Oh my God, he's adorable!!" That was what I said the first time I saw this little critter pictured in today's post.
I really don't think it's possible to get any cuter than Lill Scrappy. I've never seen anything like him before and he's utterly unique, which I think makes him perfect for today's post... this blog's 100th!
I mean "unique" quite literally too. This little plushy and many more like him, are made by Karna over at Cocoon Designs on Etsy.
Each one is hand stitched together from recycled sweaters, buttons and more recycled stuff that she discovers along the way in her every day life. That makes each and every one of them 100% unique!
Lill Scrappy and many of the other dolls in Cocoon Designs are limited edition too! In fact, this one will only have five editions made total.
Cocoon Designs also offers something that you really don't see all that much from in the handmade market place, which is the option of extended payments because she wants each and every person that wants a piece of her work to have the ability to get one! How great is that?

This is the theme of the last decade, it seems, and soon to be the theme of the next as well from the look of it. Not a bad thing really, in a society where commercialism and commerce is a huge influence, we as consumers go through a huge amount of waste every day.
Being environmentally conscious is an
important task in the view of the overwhelming amount of byproduct and waste our society produces as a whole.
That's part of the reason (innovation being the other part) that I love today's feature shop.
Half Pint Salvage is ran by Karl, a self-professed "reverse trash man" who has made the entire purpose of his shop to reuse, re-purpose and recycle items that he sees as having "simply been mistaken for something that's no longer usable". He rescues these items that have long ago been abandoned and gives them life once more and a new purpose in the world!
Karl uses these items he finds to create unique, functional home decor pieces using salvaged and recycled finds and his shop is filled with terrific and innovative pieces that really show off his creative streak. I'm especially fond of the chalk board pictured in today's post, in fact if I could find a place to put it in my home, it'd already be mine!
So if you like to put an effort into saving the environment when you're looking for your home decor or gifts to give, be sure to stop by Half Pint Salvage and take a look. You might just find exactly what you're looking for, or something that you weren't looking for but now that you've found it you just can't do without!

Thank you, everyone, yesterday for taking a look at the off-the-topic-for-this-blog post I put up. Every once in a while, a break from the norm is a good thing, especially for something so important.
When I first came upon today's shop, I was struck at first by the shop's clean lines and crisp photos. So struck, that it took me a minute to realize what I was looking at.
I've seen quite a few of the "reuse, recycle" artists and work out there, and I'd never name any names, but there's a substantial portion of artisans in this venue that produce (what to me personally) looks like just... slapped together junk.
Tanith on Etsy is -not- one of those.
Tanith sells Guitar String, Steampunk and Found Object Jewelry What this means is that they specialize in jewelry handmade from guitar strings and other found objects. Yep... Found objects. You wouldn't know it, though, to look at the pieces in their shop.
Tanith Rohe is the artist of these terrific, innovative pieces, and is a featured artist at both The Museum of Craft and Folk Art in San Francisco, CA as well as the Sonoma Valley Music Center in Sonoma, CA.
Tanith loves to take an object that would appear as trash to another and to turn it into a work of art, and does an excellent job at doing just that! This shop is a stunning example of what you can do with a little innovation and creativity behind you to guide your way.

I'm a big time nature fan. I've spent the majority of my life in or near the forests, mountains and sea and these things will always be a part of my blood.
In the city, I'm a fish out of water. I find them disorienting and far too busy and whenever I visit the heart of any city, or even most towns, I'm instantly longing to return to the earthy places I find most comfortable. These forests, mountains, streams and beaches are where I find my peace.
This is surely why I was so attracted to today's shop.
Natures Art Melbourne has a lot of nature related items, my favorite of which is the one pictured in this post.
All of the pieces in Natures Art Melbourne are created from scratch. The shop is ran by a wonderful, earth loving artist named Martina and she cuts, polishes and sets nearly all of the stones she works with herself. She also works with gems, timber, shells and other raw found materials, making her living off the land itself with love and obvious enjoyment.
