Monday Morning Mosaic

Today's Monday Mosaic is all about vintage!

I have a love for vintage and although this blog is primarily about handmade items, I sometimes like to include a bit of vintage finds for those that, like me, feel the artistry and quality of years past is a horrible thing to waste.

Wil Shepherd - Vintage Department Store

Wil Shepherd from Venice, California

With sections sorted by lifestyle and a directory for each page in their shop announcement, this vintage shop carries a wide variety of beautiful items from Farmland Chic to Queens Manor, Classic Vintage to Asian Persuasion and much more. Fascinating, quality items abound for you to browse through and enjoy in this beautifully organized shop with nearly 1000 items on display.

unExpectedParTie - Vintage Style

unExpectedParTie from Asheville, North Carolina

With a love of vintage, science, art, fashion and design and filling their lives with beautiful things, the owners of this shop have brought to Etsy a wonderful collection of treasures to browse through. Their photography is gorgeous (and thorough) making browsing through their shop a pleasure and the variety makes this shop a must-see for anyone who enjoys the discovery of vintage finds.

Carly Ann Swift - Swift Design and Vintage

Carly Ann Swift from Vancouver, BC, Canada

With a passion and deep appreciation for fine vintage pieces, Carly Ann Swift regularly hunts thrift stores, estate sales, car boot sales and the occasional garage sale to find the next great vintage treasure to share with the world in her beautiful Etsy shop. All pieces are beautifully photographed with an aesthetic eye. Also, in this shop, all prices are negotiable, the shop owner is always open to reasonable offers.

Maison Boheme - Housewares of Yore, Treasures of Yesteryear

Sarah from Dallas, Texas

A shop ran by a woman who loves beautiful vintage treasures and enjoys bringing them together from far and wide to share with the world in her shop on Etsy. Although the selection is small, the presentation is lovely. I personally have a fascination with vintage typewriters, which is what first drew me to her shop. You may also enjoy browsing through her sold items as well!

I hope you enjoyed today's collection of shops as much as I enjoyed finding them! Etsy is a great place for handmade, that's for sure... but it's also a wonderful place for vintage discoveries with a wide variety of shops specializing in just that theme alone!

Prints and Charms Inspired by Vintage Books

I've always loved children's books and I have quite a collection that I've gathered over the years. Most of my books are vintage, because I have a love for the hand drawn artwork and watercolor prints found among their pages.

In today's feature shop, JBling on Etsy, you'll find not just vintage storybooks of times gone by, but also contemporary prints and artwork inspired by many of the vintage storybooks from bygone years.

Lots of adorable artwork is scattered through the shop, offered in the form of both prints and note cards. And in the "Reading List" section you'll find a large section of vintage children's books as well!

Paul Bunyan and Christopher Robin sit side by side with other old favorites from Tom Sawyer to vintage Mickey Mouse!

If you're like me and love the whimsical artwork that was popular in decades past, or even if you just want to take a walk down memory lane, be sure to stop by and take a browse around!

Vintage Clothes, Accessories and Shoes at Oma Vintage

Oma Vintage on EtsyI love shoes. You have NO idea. I own so many shoes I could probably (almost) wear a different pair every day for a year. I'm horrible about it too, because I'll buy in a heartbeat if I see something I like.

Shoes were what first caught my eye in today's shop too. There was a pair of boots in there that I fell in love with (sold now but oooh were they gorgeous!) and wanted so bad. Not the right size was all that held me back but there's plenty of other items in Oma Vintage that -are- my size and I'm more than a little tempted by.

Oma Vintage on Etsy is a terrific little vintage shop filled with clothes and shoes. Not only that, but they're one of the only vintage shops selling clothing that gives you copious amounts of pictures so you can have a clear view of what it is your buying. I like that. I think it's necessary if you're not going to be able to try on the clothes until after you buy them.

And, not only do they have a shop on Etsy, but they have a retail store in the Philadelphia area as well as a website! So if you like a vintage touch to your outfits or love shopping vintage racks for by-gone styles, stop by and check them out!

YOU CAN CLICK ON THE PICTURE ABOVE TO VISIT OMA VINTAGE'S SHOP ON ETSY AND TAKE A LOOK AROUND OR, IF YOU PREFER, CLICK RIGHT HERE.

Also! Oma Vintage is in transition from their old location on Etsy to their new one! Everything in their old shop is currently on super-sale so be sure to stop by and check out their old location as well!

The Eclectic Wayfaring Magnolia on Etsy

I love handmade, and I love art. That's why I have this blog. I want to help introduce the wonderful creations of people in the handmade and artisan community to others.

Wayfaring Magnolia on EtsyThat said? One of my number one favorite artists of all time is a classic.

Alphonse Mucha

Alphonse Maria Mucha was a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist at the turn of the 19th century. He's best known for his distinct style and his images of women, which are just exquisite and full of joy.

Today's shop has a piece reminiscent of this artist's work, and when I first stopped into her shop, that was immediately what caught my eye.

Wayfaring Magnolia on Etsy is filled with a combination of handmade and vintage pieces sure to keep you browsing. The shop owner, Amanda, is self taught at handcrafting and currently works as a professional gypsy songbird and musician.

Amanda's collection in her shop is eclectic and interesting and definitely worth a browse!

Vintage Finds and Fond Memories

When I was little, my mother used to embellish my clothes. Even after I was old enough to choose jeans over frilly dresses and denim over lace, she used to embroider designs on my shirts or little details into the cuffs or pockets of my jeans.

Patch Vintage Shop on EtsyNow days, if you want that kind of embellishment on your clothes, you usually have to pay through the nose for it in a retail store. There's another option though.

Vintage.

Vintage recycled clothing is a terrific way to discover styles and fashions that have been lost in time but can easily be worn again or converted into something fashion forward for today's society. And, although most of the features that I put up on this blog are handmade in origin, I believe there's a true art to vintage scavengers who hunt for and discover terrific finds then find ways to recycle these terrific finds back out into the world again.

Today's shop is one of these places that does just that. Patch Vintage Shop on Etsy is filled with bygone styles just waiting for the right person to come along and resurrect them back into the world of today. I'm especially fond of the linen blouse featured in this post, which reminds me of the many embellishments my mother used to put on my own clothing. I took these embellishments for granted back then, but now, looking back, I see how much work was involved in them and how much of a labor of love this was for her. When I find items in the present that reminds me of those special pieces, it always makes me smile.

Vintage 50s Eyewear and Retro Fashion

Vintage 50s EyewearLast week, I introduced you to my mother, a wonderful woman who is the consummate "Lady". Today's shop reminded me of her mother and I'd love a chance to share with you a little about my grandmother today.

My grandmother came from a different era entirely than either myself or my mother, one that in some ways was much simpler. My grandmother was of the era where they wore hats and white gloves to go shopping, your best dress to church on Sunday and cocktail dresses with elegant lines with your hair up in a French twist for drinks in town.

She did all of these things. She also worked hard as an events coordinator for Boeing executives, never once allowed herself to be seen in a state of dishabille and had a sense of decorum that was unflappable.

Today's shop reminded me of her because I could see her shopping there. In fact, I could see her buying them out in order to have the perfect "accent" to any number of her beautiful outfits (and believe me, she had some gorgeous clothes and ensembles).

Vintage 50's Eyewear is filled with Vintage 50s Eyewearrhinestone cat eye vintage retro eyeglasses and sunglasses, France eyewear, Shuron eyeglasses, G-man frames, vintage art craft, Ray Ban sunglasses and more. My grandmother would have absolutely LOVED this shop.

Whether you're looking for a blast from the past such as 1950s eyeglasses, psychedelic 1960s hippie style, the disco 70S fashions or and the oh so cool retro 80s sunglasses inspired by big hair bands and the Blue Brothers, this is the shop for you. They even have some pieces perfect for today's emo and nerd-wear fashion styles!

I love this shop, and if you're in to retro fashion or know someone who does, you'll love it too so don't miss taking a peek at Vintage 50's Eyewear on Etsy.

Retro Chic Style for the Kitchen Goddess

I'm a sucker for Retro Chic. I can't help it, I love the designs and patterns and just... well, I just love it all. My mother sometimes wondered if I wasn't born in the wrong generation, because my tastes have always wandered towards the styles and fashions of old rather than new.

That's probably why I'm so intrigued by today's
shop. I absolutely hate those "barbecue" style aprons they sell in today's market. I just don't like that style and it's just yuck to me.

Today's shop specializes in aprons, but not that newer style you see every grill slinger from here to hell and back wearing. Instead, the shop specializes in Retro Chic styles of bygone era and I LOVE them for it! Do you have any idea how long I've been searching for someone selling these style of aprons? Probably not, but trust me, it's been a very long and arduous search.

Sugar Pie Chic is filled with these beautiful pieces.

And, while design is important, quality also matters to the owner of this wonderful shop. All of her aprons are made from 100% cotton designer fabric and are made to last with double-stitching on stress points and quality materials that make these aprons not only pretty but durable and made for work.

Pin-Up Glam to Groovy Kitch - Sexy Vintage Finds

Psssst! Hey... did you hear those crickets?!?

Yes, I've been neglectful of the blog the last few days. It's been tax time around here, you see, and we've been busy visiting a tax consultant (three days in a row, in fact). All other responsibilities had to be put on hold while we catered to the whims, desires and demands of the tax goddess, Terry, who is really a miracle worker of the greatest sense. (After all, I might just be able to pay off 1/2 our credit card bill with this return... YAY!)

That said and all apologies given... I'd like to introduce you to today's wonderful handmade shop!

Empress Jade Vintage is an absolutely wonderful shop I came across the other day, and one you really won't want to miss. Especially if, like me, you really have a great appreciation for the fashion styles of decades gone by.

They carry a variety of cute, indie, fashionable vintage clothing from party and day dresses to accessories as well as tons of fabulous vintage lingerie.

Whether you're a fan of the Bombshell 50s style, Mad Men 60s look, Rich Hippie & Disco 70s styles or the 80s New Wave trends, you're not going to be disappointed in this shop. They have the classics that made each decade unique and photographs that really show off their merchandise well.

Empress Jade sells authentic vintage women's fashions and almost never have more than one of the same item. More often than not, her pieces are one of a kind, so once they are sold they are gone forever. So with that in mind, don't miss out! Visit and take a look around and if you like what you see, be sure to check back for new OOAK vintage items because the shop is updated regularly!

A Bit of This and That

Morning! Today's shop, Our Home to Yours, is a brand new shop that's only been on Etsy since the beginning of January! I was introduced to this shop by the BEST (Boosting Etsy Shops Team) of which we're a member!

Our Home to Yours is a mother and daughter team that are offering a variety of Amigurumi kit dolls, vintage items, photo prints and a variety of other home decor items, jewelry and more. Debbi, the matriarch and crafter, is a collector and finder of cool vintage merchandise while Amanda, the daughter and artist, has delved into the world of crochet.

I, personally, am particularly fond of the little Amigurumi dolls they have in their shop, especially the little bunny with floppy lop ears and little button eyes. Go take a peek for yourself!

There is just something so sexy about....

The scholarly. The literate. The intense.

There's a bit of all of this included in today's shop, Fatal Attraction. This is a shop filled with mystery and beauty. The pictures grab your interest and suck you in. The descriptions. Oh, there's no way to not be drawn once you start to read.

It's like wandering through a good book filled with attractively aged pages and leather binding. When you pick it off the shelf, it's the outer beauty you admire. There's a sense of anticipation and impending wonder, as if you know a book so beautifully aged and unique is guaranteed to be filled with mystery and wonder.

And then, when you open it and begin to read, you just don't want to ever put it down.

It's the perfect analogy for Fatal Attraction. This shop catches you from the moment you see it, and once you delve deeper it latches on and doesn't want to let go. Neither will you want it to.

In fact, whenever I write one of these posts, I always have the shop open in another window and I'm so intrigued and tickled by the shop that I'm having a hard time drawing away just to write my own article! This is a shop you're not going to want to miss and I guarantee the beauty and uniqueness you find there will give you an entirely new appreciation for artisan crafts and vintage pieces alike.

My turn to blog about Haiti... Kind Of

Okay, not exactly. But, Haiti's involved because today I'm featuring the Queer Etsy Street Team Collective, which is a shop run by the QueerEtsy Team, who is currently contributing to help with the Haitian relief effort.

This is a great and very talented group of
fun loving GLBTQIQ (gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans-gender, queer, inter-sex and questioning) Etsians.

Their collective shop is filled with talented artists and craftspeople that work with every conceivable medium and, among their merchandise, you will find a broad representation of incredible handmade items and vintage treasures.

All items in the shop are donated by the talented members of the Queer Etsy Street Team, and 100% of sales proceeds go to benefit charities of the team's choosing. This month, until February 14th, that charity is the Madre.Org to benefit their emergency fund for the survivors of the Haitian earthquake.

The store offers Free Shipping, too! So, if you're looking for a way to give back or Pay-It-Forward, make sure you head over to the Queer Etsy Street Team Collective and take a look around.

Truly Unique Footwear Style

Like many women out there, I have a "thing" for shoes. I love shoes and have tons and tons of them. At the same time? I can never have too many. There's always another pair just around the corner waiting with my name on it.

Because of this, Scholarly Articles is one of those shops where I could spend hours! Why? Because she sells SHOES.

Yes, you heard me right, *shoes* on Etsy! Unique and interesting shoes too. One-of-a-kind hand-painted vintage shoes to be exact. (She does handbags too, btw, and both are beautiful.)

She hand-paints all of her shoes and handbags with professional-quality leather paint and then seal them with an acrylic leather sealer. This process allows the painted leather to stretch and bend without damaging the artwork depicted on it.

Not only that, but all bags and most of the shoes are vintage, with a few newer shoes thrown-in for women with feet that do not fit into vintage. And she welcomes custom requests as well!

If you're looking for the perfect gift for someone who appreciates one-of-a-kind wearable art or eco-conscious fashion, you should definitely check out Scholarly Articles! For that matter, if you love shoes or handbags? The same applies!
